I am directed by Mr. Secretary Amery to
transmit to you, to be laid before Secretary Sir
Austen Chamberlain, a copy of telegraphic correspond-
ence with the Governor of the Straits Settlements in
Fr. do.27 Jan regard to the effect which recent events in China have

had on public opinion in Malaya, together with a cooy
of a letter which has been addressed to the Admiralty
regarding the Governor's suggestion that a warship
should be stationed at Singapore.
2. Mr. Amery would be glad to receive any
observations that Sir Austen Chamberlain may have
to offer on the subject.
